We got to see this week the valuable contributions that geography alumni make to the department. Zachary McLain (BA 2014) reached out to us this week to recruit current geography students in the department to apply for the summer internship at the West Virginia Department of Transportation. Remarkably, Zach himself started in that department as an intern recruited by another geography alum. This is the value of creating lasting relationships with your department, and we encourage soon to be graduates to follow in the footsteps of Zach. Just because you graduate, it does not mean that our interaction ends. We always want to hear from you, not just to offer opportunities to current students, but to stay abreast with your progress in life and career. At the same, current students should value these opportunities and are encouraged to get in contact with the alumni geography body for mentoring and network development.
We also received word this week of movement in the articulation agreements between Columbia State Community College in Tennessee and Marshall University’s Geography Department. The agreement has been signed by President Gilbert, so is now in effect.
Finally, we would like to remind everyone that on Wednesday, March 14th the Geography Club will be holding its second meeting and attendees will be voting to elect the officers of the club. If you are interested in nominating yourself or someone else for the positions of president, vice-president, treasurer, or secretary, please email Dr. Law. The meeting will be in HH 202 at 2:30PM.
Should you have any questions about any of these opportunities, do not hesitate to get in contact.
