Victor Winston, M.S.
Visiting Professor of International Affairs

After earning degrees in Geography and Soviet Studies from Columbia University, Professor Winston was drafted during the Korean War, and assigned to the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA later transferred him to the Mid-European Studies Center of Radio Free Europe, where he became the Centerís Coordinator of Research and later its acting head. In 1959, he moved to the private sector to lead a Washington, D.C. organization translating Russian scientific journals into English. The organization evolved into his own publishing house, eventually with three branches worldwide. Having sold major portions of the business to other publishers, today Professor Winston manages a similar, small firm, which publishes seven scientific journals from its headquarters in Columbia, Maryland.

He lectured at the War College in the 1950s and served as Adjunct Professor of International Affairs at George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia. Professor Winston published three books, two of which he co-authored with the late Ed A. Hewett, a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and Assistant National Security Advisor to President George H. W. Bush. He has published in established scholarly journals, served for many years on the Board of Directors of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies and is currently co-editor of the journal, Eurasian Geography and Economics affiliated with the Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C.
