New Faculty & Staff for Fall 2006

The Geology Department will have two new faculty on board in August 2006.

  • Dr. William Niemann

    Dr. Niemann was previously an Associate Professor at the University of Dubuque, Iowa and has been selected to fill a tenure-track position. He will be teaching upper level courses in Engineering Geology, Environmental Geology and Geomorphology as well as introductory courses. He received an MS in Geology in 1986 from the University of Iowa and worked as an environmental geologist for Roy F. Weston, Inc for 7 years. He completed his Ph.D. in Geological Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1999. His primary research interests are in hydrogeology and hydrology.


     
  • Dr. Aley K. El-Shazly

    Dr. El-Shazly was previously an Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee-Martin and was hired for the 2004-2005 academic year. He will be teaching Petrology and Geochemistry along with introductory courses and labs. Dr. El-Shazly completed his Ph.D. in 1991 at Stanford University and taught at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman before moving on to faculty positions at Idaho Sate University and UT-Martin. He has demonstrated research expertise in the petrology of metamorphic rocks.



Both of these new faculty members have outstanding credentials and come highly recommended, and their skills and enthusiasm will undoubtedly help to enhance the Geology program at Marshall.
