Program Overview:
The Graduate Certificate in Middle Childhood Education requires 15 hours of course credit. The Certificate provides for a certificate endorsement for elementary and secondary teachers who have met initial licensure requirements.

Program Highlights:
  • The  certificate provides an endorsement which allows teachers to provide instruction in grades 5-9 within their area(s) of specialization.
  • Students may complete the certificate while being enrolled in the master's degree program in Elementary or Secondary Education.
  • Coursework may be used as an Area of Emphasis within the the master's degree program in Elementary or Secondary Education.
  • Many of the required courses are offered online.

How to apply:

  • Prospective certificate-only students should apply for admission to Marshall University as a Professional Development student and select the Middle Childhood Education Certificate on the application form.
  • Applicants should follow the admissions process described in the Graduate Catalog, or at the Graduate Admissions website.
    Students can pursue the graduate certificate while enrolled in the master's program in Elementary or Secondary Education by submitting a Secondary Program Request form.
