| Program Highlights |
A master’s degree may be earned with a specialization in any of the Areas of Emphasis. Students without a background in education must acquire certification in regular education prior to endorsement in Special Education, or they can enter the Alternative Certification Program (see Graduate Catalog). The Preschool Special Education endorsement is exempt from this requirement. |

needed for the areas of emphasis in Multicategorical and Autism are
also offered at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center in Beckley. *Courses needed for the area of emphasis in Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Teaching Visually Impaired are the only ones in the state, operate on a cohort basis, and have live meetings at the most central location in the state for the majority of cohort participants. |
