LICENSURE PROGRAM IN

DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING

EDUCATION

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission as a degree or professional development student, applicants must submit the following information to the Marshall University, South Charleston Campus Office of Admission and Records:

  • A completed Application for Graduate Admissions form;

  • Official copy of all under-graduate and graduate transcripts (undergraduate GPA of 2.5 required); and

  • Official scores for the GRE or MAT; applicants must obtain a combined score of 800 (verbal and quantitative) on the GRE or a score of 30 on the MAT.*

  • All applicants must hold a valid West Virginia general education teaching license.

*GRE/MAT score requirement waived for applicants holding a masters degree.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

All program credit hours will allow teachers to enroll for credit at Marshall University with the assurance the licensure course work may be incorporated into a 39 semester-hour Masters Degree Program in Special Education.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Marshall University, with support provided by the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind, is offering a 24 semester-hour certification program for the education of children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.  This program leads to licensure (pre-K – Adult) by the West Virginia Department of Education in teaching the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Upon completion of this program, students will have acquired skills in accordance with the “Council for Exception Children Standards” for serving individuals who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.


TECHNOLOGY-BASED INSTRUCTION

Using both distance education delivery and “live” meetings, the courses will maximize learning opportunities while being convenient for students.  Classes will have a specified number of “live” class meetings each semester at a central location, with continued support provided through Internet-based learning opportunities. Specific courses will be held on the campus of the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind.
