Profile



The Graduate School of Education and Professional Development provides an array of degree and professional development programs, continuing education opportunities and services designed to address the needs of the adult learner. Generally, students served by the School are mid-career professionals (mean age of 36) who are committed to continuing their career and professional development within the state, region or local community. The School provides professional/technical expertise for the service area and is actively involved in addressing regional and state level educational, mental health and social issues.


Faculty and Staff

  • 150+ Part-time Faculty

 


Programs

  • MA Programs: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Leadership Studies, Counseling, Reading Education, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT).

  • Educational Specialist Programs: School Psychology; Education (Areas of Emphasis in Counseling, Curriculum and Instruction, Reading, and Leadership Studies).

  • Doctoral Programs in Educational Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction.

  • 17 educational licensure programs.

  • Other school units include: Prevention Resource Center, Community Services Clinic, and Regional Center for Distance Education and Professional Development.

  • Special programs include West Virginia Writing Project, Summer Enrichment Program, Summer ESL Program, NBPTS Training Program,  and IBM RE3 Project.

  • Collaborative degree programs with West Virginia University, Shepherd University, and Fairmont State University.

  • Complete programs in Leadership Studies, MCE, Library Science, Instructional Technology, and ESL available online.

  • Graduate Certificate Programs in 10 areas.

    • Approximately 90% of students are enrolled part-time.
    • $900,000+ generated annually in third-party course contracts.
    • $3.5 - 4.0 million generated annually in external grants/contracts.
