Here in this page, you will find what we believe sets The model School apart from the traditional educational System in the state of West Virginia, and perhaps the country.

New Response System:

Students at the June Harless Center Model School have begun using the TurningPoint® Response System in all their classrooms. TurningPoint® response system integrates 100% into Microsoft® PowerPoint® and allows students to participate in presentations or lectures by submitting responses to interactive questions using a ResponseCard® keypad or other hand-held/computer devices. Using TurningPoint response system, the PowerPoint presentations created by our teachers becomes a powerful data collection and assessment tools that collect real-time student responses and dramatically improves productivity and results. Just another technology tool working for our teachers as we prepare the citizens of the 21st Century.

The Model School Habla Español:

At the Model School, all our grades receive Spanish Instruction three times per week. They are instructed by a native speaker who uses a communicative approach to language learning which no only teaches the students the language, but it also teaches them about cultural and socio-linguistic aspect of the Hispanic culture.

LEGO robotics @ The Model School:

In cooperation with Dr. Linda Hamilton from Marshall University our student have begun working with robotics using the LEGO® robolab system. Students work in teams building and programming LEGO® robots to execute countless missions. LEGO® robolab system provides students with the opportunity to develop problem solving skills, team work, organizational skills, and overall develop a higher thinking level.

Three Tier Reading Model:

We have implemented a program that works with small groups of students developing their reading and writing skills.

Three Tier Math Model:

We have implemented an unique program that like no other, works with small groups of students developing their math skills, using concept based mathematics.

Connecting to the World Through Virtual Trips:

With the use of our Polycom® System, we are able to connect to the world.  Cultures, places, people, etc are as far as a simple connection.

Distance Learning:

The June Harless Center Model School is currently broadcasting Spanish and Calculus to high schools in several counties throughout West Virginia. Instructors employed by the center provided needed instruction to rural West Virginia using the latest technologies.

Interactive Learning:

Students and teachers at the Model School use technology as a tool to facilitate learning rather than as a subject matter. Hands-on activities allows students to take control of their own learning activity.
