Harless Staff Gathers for a Year's End Celebration.

The staff of the June Harless Center gathered at the home of Mrs. Kyra Minichan, our director of community development and public relations. This was a wonderful year for the center, and the model school initiative. We met a lot of our challenges and encounter many others; all with the goal of bringing 21st century education to the children of West Virginia. Below is a clip of friends and family of the June Harless Center at their Christmas party.

Model School Celebrate Global Studies with a Parade of Countries and Cultures:

Students, faculty and staff of the June Harless Center and Kellogg Elementary took time out to showcase the different countries and cultures they have been studying.

The June Harless Center Completed The Shewey Science Academy:

Middle School students from across Mingo County, WV participated in an active science program designed to increase knowledge and skills, as well as motivate them towards college science majors. The Science Academy became a reality thanks to a grant provided by Mr. C. Fred Shewey formerly of Kermit, WV. All activities were completed at no cost to participating students. During the week long science academy, students investigated a series of murders using modern scientific techniques (DNA fingerprinting, hair and fiber analysis, forensic entomology, etc) . Student worked with their partners to gather evidences, update their theories about the crime and presented their cases to a jury at a criminal trial. Parents and friends were invited to the presentation and played the role of the Jury.

The Model School celebrates the world:

Global studies, an intricate part of the 21st Century model had a day of celebration at the Model School. Students shared with each other what they have learned throughout the year. Food, music, and crafts highlighted the event.

The Model School on TeacherTube:

The Model  School now has a presence on the popular site TeacherTube. This site plays an important role in providing an internet presence for school in WV where YouTube has been blocked due to the nature of some of its content.
