The June Harless Center Develops The Shewey Science Academy:

Middle School students from across Mingo County, WV are eligible to participate in an active science program designed to increase knowledge and skills, as well as motivate them towards college science majors. The Science Academy is a reality thanks to a grant provided by Mr. C. Fred Shewey formerly of Kermit, WV. All activities are completed at no cost to participating students. The Shewey Science Academy is a part of a larger project to increase student achievement in science across Sothern West Virginia. During the week long science academy, students will investigate a series of murders using modern scientific techniques (DNA fingerprinting, hair and fiber analysis, forensic entomology, etc) . Student will work with their partners to gather evidences, update their theories about the crime and present their cases to a jury at a criminal trial. Click below for a brochure.
