Homecoming Court

Homecoming Court is a great experience for students. If you are interested in learning more, we have scheduled three informational meetings. You only need to attend one in order to be eligible to participate. 

•September 3, 2014 – Information Meeting, 9:00 a.m., MSC 2W22

•September 8, 2014 – Information Meeting, 8:00 p.m., MSC 2E37 John Spotts Room

•September 11, 2014 – Information Meeting, 12:30 p.m., MSC 2W22


Candidates must have a sponsorship from a recognized student organization or team, or residence hall floor or association.  The sponsoring group must fill out the sponsorship form and attach a letter of recommendation for the candidate.  The sponsoring group may only sponsor ONE candidate.

Sponsorship form and letter of recommendation are due by September 17, 2014 at Noon.  These must be presented in person at the Office of Student Activities, MSC 2W31.


•Must be sponsored by a recognized student organization or team, or residence hall floor or association.

•Must be a student currently enrolled and in good standing at Marshall University

•Minimum GPA of 2.75

•Must complete an application and must give permission to the Office of Student Affairs to review GPA, conduct, and overall university status.

•Must be willing to allow picture and biographical information to be used in the promotion of Homecoming activities

•Must participate in a personal interview with a committee of judges

•Must participate or be in attendance at Homecoming activities sponsored by the Office of Student  Activities

•Students cannot be sponsored by more than one recognized student organization or team, or residence hall floor or association.

•Must be able to fulfill all duties as Mr. or Miss Marshall as outlined in this packet or you will be removed from the position


•Candidates must submit application packet by noon on September 17, 2014  in person at the Office of Student Activities, MSC 2W31.  Candidates must ensure that they have a sponsoring organization that has turned in the sponsorship packet and recommendation letter.

•Students will be notified if their candidacy is accepted and if they are eligible to campaign. This notification will be done by email on the afternoon of September 17, 2014.  Informational meetings for all candidates will be held September 3, 8 & 11, 2014 (see meeting details on page 26).  You must attend only one. Failure to attend will result in removal from candidacy.

•Eligible candidates can campaign from September 18-25, 2014. (See Campaign section)

•The first vote will take place on September 24-25, 2014.

•The top ten female and top ten male*** candidates, as demonstrated by the first vote for Homecoming Court, will receive a phone call in the morning on September 26, 2014 between 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. to schedule interviews. Unsuccessful candidates will get email notification in the morning on September 26, 2014 between 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  Campaigning can continue after 10:00 a.m. on September 26 until October 2, 2014 at 11:59 p.m.

•Interviews will be conducted on September 29-30, 2014 in Foundation Hall, Nate Ruffin Room.

•Candidates will be given an interview score that will be combined with student votes to determine the Mr. and Miss Marshall Homecoming Court of four female and four male students.

•The second round of voting will be held on October 1-2, 2014.

•Scores will be calculated and verified by the Office of Student Affairs.

•The court will be announced at the Unity Walk celebration on Monday, October 6 at 5:00 p.m.  All candidates will receive the details of this event in advance.

•Each member of the court will need to secure a car to participate in the Homecoming parade.

•The winners of Mr. and Miss Marshall will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming football game.


•Campaigning is restricted to Marshall students.

• Families, friends, faculty, staff cannot assist in campaigning

•Candidates may not campaign using alcohol or drugs.  Any reference to alcohol or drugs will not be tolerated.

•All University policies must be followed during campaigning, including:

-Food guidelines

-Sign posting guidelines

-Student Code of Conduct

•Candidates may not negatively reference other candidates in their campaign. Be respectful!

•Candidates may continue to campaign on the days of voting.


•Applications due on September 17 by Noon

•Campaigning begins on September 18 and runs until September 25 at 11:59 p.m.

•First Vote September 24-25

•Campaigning reopens on September 26 at 10:00 a.m. until October 2 at 11:59 p.m.

•Interviews on Sept. 29-30

•Second vote October 1-2

•Announcement of court on Oct. 7

•Alumni Weekend events

•Homecoming 2015 to crown the new Mr. and Miss Marshall

•Special requests by the Office of the President, the Office of Communications, or the Office of Student Affairs, if requested a month in advance
