Welcome to the Housing and Residence Life' website. My name is John Yaun and I serve as the Director of Housing and Residence Life. I have been at Marshall since April 2009. Over the past few months there has been unprecedented change within the residence halls and residential living. We have implemented a new First Year Experience, created two Residential Colleges, added numerous traditions for community development, and recruited some of the best staff in the United States. The best part of working at Marshall is the students and the dedicated staff who want to make a positive lasting difference in the lives of those students. The diversity of interests and backgrounds make Marshall a unique place of learning and growth. We are an evolving organization that is looking to be one of the best residential programs in the country because of our commitment to students and their learning and development.

For those interested, I have an M.A from Louisiana State University in the Arts-and-Humanities, a B.A. from LSU in Political Science as well, and am currently completing a Ph. D. in Higher Education Administration. I have worked previously at Texas State University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Louisiana State University, and the University of Miami. In my spare time I play tennis, teach Holocaust & Genocide Studies, collect books and wine, and enjoy the four cats I adopted from various animal shelters. My office is located in the Housing and Residence Life main office in Holderby Hall, room 108 should you want to visit.

Hello everyone! Just want to introduce myself. I'm from Birmingham, Alabama. I started my academic and professional career at the University of West Alabama as a Resident Assistant and later on became a Graduate Assistant for the Department of Housing. After UWA, I was fortunate enough to continue my career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Residence Life Coordinator. During my time at UAB I learned so much about myself as a professional and as a person. I have been blessed to have worked with great student leaders and have helped with their development and growth through college. I'm also blessed to have met and worked with many great professional staff members and some of those people serve as a mentor to me to this day.

Throughout my life my grandfather told me to "do what I want to do in life and never dread going to work ". My experiences at UWA and UAB have given me the opportunity take what my grandfather said and to apply it to my life.

On a personal note, I'm blessed to have a great family and wonderful friends in my life.
