Chief Information Security Officer

What degrees do you hold?
B.B.A Emphasis on Business Information Systems – Marshall University
M.S Emphasis in Technology Management – Marshall University
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
ISC^2

How would you describe your role in 10 words or less?
I manage risk and raise awareness of information security around campus.

What is your favorite thing about working in IT or at MU?
The variety of people and professions. One day I may be talking to a faculty member who is an expert in science or arts, the next day I may be talking with a group of students, and after that work with campus administrators over in Old Main. I never go home thinking “Wow, my job is so boring.”

What is your favorite restaurant in the Huntington/Charleston area?
Whatever is new, especially with different types of international food. Most recently I’ve just visited Shangri-La Chinese restaurant, they are great!

What is your favorite vacation spot?
Someplace outdoors, but not too crowded. Recently visited the Pacific Northwest and enjoyed their old-growth forests. Standing in the middle of a grove of trees that have been around for 500-700 years…it can really change your perspective on what’s important.

What are you currently watching/Binging?
I believe our TV is stuck on the Home & Garden (HGTV) channel with the usual group of do-it-yourself and fixer-upper shows. Also enjoy a good sci-fi or psychology-thriller on Netflix.

What are some of your favorite pastime activities?
Planes, trains, and automobiles. I enjoy airshows and aircraft museums. I also have been building and flying model radio-controlled (R/C) aircraft. Growing up in Huntington I have always loved the railroad, but have a deep interest in learning more about the era of ‘big steam engines’ (1900-1950’s). Automobiles, well I love to hop in the car with my wife Mona and go to places where we can see…planes and trains.
