Program

Students can earn six hours of academic credit by studying at Université Catholique de Lyon, France during the month of July. The program is designed for American students who wish study in Lyon and offers a broad range of courses, including elementary, intermediate, and advanced French language, composition, conversation, literature, history and art. The instructors in the program are native speakers of French who hold advanced university degrees and who are fully accredited by the French Ministry of Education. A Marshall University professor will accompany the group and provide supervision, assistance, and supplemental instruction.     --top--


Eligibility

  • All Marshall University students.
  • High School seniors over 18 years of age who are admitted to Marshall University.
  • Graduate students are eligible if they register for graduate level Independent Studies at Marshall University.
  • Any program participant not enrolled at Marshall University and who wants the academic credit earned in France transferred to his/her records should consult and make arrangements with his/her school prior to departure.      --top--

Transfer of Credits

The courses for which Marshall University will grant credit are:

  • FRN 101-102 Elementary French
  • FRN 203-204 Intermediate French
  • FRN 305-306 Introduction to French Composition and Conversation
  • FRN 315-316 Advanced French Grammar and Composition
  • FRN 323-324 Advanced Grammar and Oral Communication
  • FRN 319, 321, 401, 403 French Literature
  • FRN 406 French Culture and Civilization
  • Undergraduate and Graduate Independent Studies.      --top--

Program DatesThe Louvre

Students enrolled in the program will fly to Lyon on June 29 or 30th, 2008 and return to Charleston WV July 30th or 31st, 2008.

Cost and Payments

The cost of the program this year is air fare plus $2530. This price includes room and board (three meals a day) while in Lyon and tuition to the Université Catholique de Lyon. Costs are based on the current exchange rate of the dollar and are subject to change. 

The schedule of payments is as follows:

A deposit of $850 must accompany the application. A second $850 payment is due February 22, 2008. The balance ($830) must be paid no later than March 31, 2008.     --top--

  • Additional expenses which the program participant will have to bear include insurance and spending money while in France.
  • Those who wish to remain in France once the academic program has concluded on July 31, 2006 will provide for their own living expenses after those dates.
  • The round trip fare from any point in the US to Paris might not increase if arrangements are made with the travel agent for a later return date prior to the purchase of the tickets. 
  • The airline tickets will be purchased for the group on or about January, 2005.     --top--

Housing

Students will be housed in private homes with families in Lyon.

Passport

  • PASSPORT

    Passport application forms and instructions are available at the Main Post Office in Virginia Avenue or call (304) 526-9619 or go to http://travel.gov/passport. The cost is $97. Typically, six  to eight weeks should be allowed to obtain a passport.

Insurance

All program participants are required to have health and accident insurance.

Travel

Toute l'annéeRound trip travel arrangements to Lyon can be made by Travel, Inc. of Huntington, WV.  

Should students wish to remain in France or travel to other countries after completing the program, they will have to make arrangements with the travel agent prior to the purchase of the tickets.     --top--
