Program

Students can earn six hours of academic credit in a month (June or July) or earn twelve Brochure Cover-Centro de Estudios Hispánicos of the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija hours of academic credit in two months (June and July) by studying at the Centro de Estudios Hispánicos of the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija in Madrid, Spain. The program offers a broad range of courses, including elementary, intermediate, and advanced Spanish language, composition, conversation, literature, history and art. The instructors in the program are native speakers of Spanish who hold advanced university degrees and who are fully accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Education. A Marshall University professor will accompany the group and provide supervision, assistance, and supplemental instruction.

EligibilityStudents in Spain

  • Marshall University students.
  • High School seniors over 18 years of age who are admitted to Marshall University.
  • Any program participant not enrolled at Marshall University and who wants the academic credit earned in Spain transferred to his/her records should consult and make arrangements with his/her school prior to departure.
  • Graduate students are eligible if they register for graduate level Independent Studies at Marshall University.     --top--

The courses for which Marshall University will grant credit are: 

  • SPN 101-102/112 Elementary Spanish
  • SPN 203-204 Intermediate Spanish
  • SPN 305-306 Introduction to Composition and Cinversation
  • SPN 315-316 Advanced Grammar and Composition
  • SPN 323-324 Advanced Grammar and Oral Communication
  • SPN 336 Spanish Culture and Civilization
  • SPN 414, 415, 416 Spanish Literature
  • SPN 417-418 Hispanic Film
  • Undergraduate and Graduate Independent Studies.

Program DatesAlarcon   

  • Students enrolled in the program for the month of June will fly to Madrid May 30 or 31, 2008 and return to Charleston WV June 28 or 29, 2008.

  • Students enrolled in the program for the month of June and July will fly to Madrid May 30 or 31, 2008 and return to Charleston WV July 30 or 31, 2008.

  • Students enrolled in the program for the month of July will fly to Madrid June 29 or 30, 2008 and return to Charleston WV July 30 or 31, 2008.

Cost and Payments

The cost of the program for summer 2008 is:

  • $2,530 (plus airfare) for the month of June or the month of July
  • $4,960 (plus airfare) for the months of June and July

MadridThese prices include room and board (three meals a day) while in Madrid, one or two month pass for all public transportation in the city and 6 or 12 hours  tuition at the Centro de Estudios Hispánicos Antonio de Nebrija. Costs are based on the current exchange rate of the dollar and are subject to change. 

The schedule of payments is as follows:

  • A deposit of $850 must accompany the application. A second $850 payment is due February 15, 2008. The balance ($830 or $3260 for the two month program) must be paid no later that March 17, 2008.     --top--

  • Additional expenses which the program participant will have to bear include insurance and spending money while in Spain.
  • Those who wish to remain in Spain once the academic program has concluded (June 30 or July  31, 2008)  will provide for their own living expenses after those dates.
  • The round trip fare from any point in the U.S to Madrid might not increase if arrangements are made with the travel agent for a later return date prior to the purchase of the tickets
  • The airline tickets will be purchased for the group on or about December 2007 / January 2008.      --top--

Students will be housed in private homes with families in Madrid.

Passport

  • Passport application forms and instructions are available at the Post Office at Virginia Avenue in Huntington.
  • Applicants will need an original (not photocopies) birth certificate and two photos to apply. The cost is $55 plus a $12 Security fee and a $30 execution fee. Insurance

All program participants are required to have health and accident insurance.
Check your medical insurance to see if it covers emergency medical care while overseas. If it does not, purchase health insurance with medical and hospital coverage for the period you will be in Europe.

You might purchase an International Student ID Card (ISIC) for $22. This card provides students with certain discounts and includes basic sickness and accident travel insurance. See http://www.istc.org

TravelCloister-Toledo

Round trip travel arrangements from the U. S. to Madrid will be made by Travel, Inc. of Huntington, W. V. The students will fly on a regularly scheduled flight of a commercial airline. 

Should students wish to remain in Spain or travel to other countries after completing the program, they will have to make arrangements with the travel agent. prior to the purchase of the tickets.  --top--
