James
L. Farley
grew up on a small farm in Rock Creek, WV. His
parents, Azel and Essie Williams Farley had eight
children with Jim being the youngest of four boys
and four girls.
Jim graduated from Marsha Fork High School in 1960.
He decided Marshall College was where he belonged.
He graduated from Marshall University in 1965 with a
BBA in Marketing-Retail. In 1964 Jim married Bobbie
Kay Webb, also a Marshall graduate.
In 1965, Jim enrolled in graduate school at Medical
College of Virginia. He graduated in 1967 with a
Masters of Hospital and Health Care Administration.
He joined the Thomas Memorial Hospital in South
Charleston, WV as Assistant Administrator and later
became Assistant Administrator of Cabell Huntington
Hospital gaining valuable experience in both
positions.
Jim was selected as Administrator and COO of
Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant in 1971
becoming the youngest CEO of a hospital in the
United States. In 1976, Jim was elected President
of the WV Hospital Association serving two one-year
terms as the nation’s youngest state hospital
association president.
In 1980, Jim accepted a position in Cincinnati, Ohio
to develop and manage healthcare facilities and
companies. Since that time, he has served as CEO of
Nursing Care Management, Inc. He has also been
active in community functions, serving as Chamber of
Commerce President, the United Methodist Church
Finance and Fundraising Committees, as well as bank
director.
Jim is actively involved at Marshall having served
on the Yeager’s Scholars Board and Alumni
Association Board. Jim is a member of the John
Marshall Society, President’s Circle, the Big Green
Club and a charter member of The Thunder Club. Jim
and Bobbie have also endowed a tennis scholarship in
their name.
They are involved in many tennis activities
including volunteering, playing and recently as the
owners of a tennis and fitness club, operating
Western Tennis & Fitness Club as a family business.
A very notable tennis award came to the Farley’s in
1991 when they were named the National Tennis Family
of the Year.
Jim and his wife Bobbie reside in Cincinnati, Ohio
with their winter months spent in Ft. Myers, FL.
Jim & Bobbie have two daughters, Angela and Andrea
and five grandchildren. Their families, their
children and grandchildren, tennis and particularly
Marshall University, have all brought great joy to
Jim and Bobbie. |
