Robert E. Yancey, Sr. (posthumous) joined Ashland Oil in 1943 following his graduation from Marshall University, where he majored in engineering. He held posts as coordinator of sales and refining; general superintendent of refineries; vice president, refining; administrative vice president; and senior vice president and chief operating office. Elected to the board of directors in 1964, he became president of Ashland Chemical Company in 1967, and in 1969 was named president of Ashland Petroleum Company. In 1972 he became president of Ashland Oil, Inc. He is a founder of the American Petroleum Refiners Association, where he served on the board of Directors until his retirement in 1982. He is recognized as one of the industry's top petroleum refining experts. he was born in Cleves, Ohio, and lived in Ashland, Kentucky until his death in 1991.
