Because L.E.A.P. is a university program, students receive a grade
for each of their courses. Course grades are based on attendance,
class participation, homework, and quizzes and exams. Major projects,
midterms and final tests are also included in the grading and may
be worth up to 50% of a students total grade. Final examinations
are given at the end of the semester in Reading, Grammar and Listening.
Final examinations are given only on the dates they are scheduled.
There are no make-ups or early exams given for any reason. The following
scale will be used for all classes:
Fall and Spring
Program Grades and Progression of Levels
In order to complete Level 109, students must have a final semester
GPA of 2.67 (83%) in the 109 General Skills Level courses and the
108 or 109 Oral Communications course for undergraduate school.
Students who plan to attend graduate school at Marshall must pass
109 with a GPA of 2.79 (87%). There are 18 credit hours
in the General Skills Level courses and Oral Communications course
combined.
Students must attend Level 109 of the L.E.A.P. Program full-time
(18 credit hours per week) before they can
qualify for successful completion. Students in Level 109 who do
not successfully complete the advanced level with an 83% (87% for
graduate study)must repeat
that level if they decide to return another semester.
Students in Level 106, 107 and 108 need an 83% to advance to the next
level. Students must attend Level 106, 107 or 108 full-time (18 credit
hours per week) before they can qualify for
advancement to the next level based on their grade. Students in
Levels 106, 107 and 108 can advance to the next level without obtaining
the 83% average grade by taking the placement exam and receiving
a passing score for the next level or obtaining recommendation from
all of the faculty.
It is important that students maintain a high grade average in
the L.E.A.P. Program as it affects their overall academic success.
Students are not permitted to repeat a level more than once during
a single academic year, and, if they have less than 63% during their
first semester of study, they will be placed on academic probation
and are in danger of being expelled from the L.E.A.P. program. Also,
if students fail Level 109, they may be placed on probation and
limited in the number of credit hours for which they can register
during their next semester of regular degree study.
Summer Program
Grades and Progression of Levels
To graduate and
matriculate: students in the 109 level must obtain a 2.67 GPA (for
undergraduate work) or 2.79 (for graduate work) PLUS an adequate
score on the Institutional TOEFL. To calculate the necessary score,
a student’s GPA is multiplied by 200 and added to the TOEFL score.
A student applying to a Marshall undergraduate program must have a
total of 1000 or more; a student applying to a Marshall graduate
program must have a total of 1050 or more.
For students in
the 106, 107, and 108 levels, a GPA of 2.67 is required at the end
of the semester PLUS a 25 percent increase on the Michigan Placement
Test.
