How to Use netLibrary

netLibary eBooks are electronic copies of published works, which can be "checked out" and read on your computer through the netLibrary web site.

Creating an Account

Before you can use netLibrary eBooks you will need to create an account with a username and password that will serve as your "virtual library card". Only current students, faculty, and staff of Marshall University may access our eBook collection. You can access eBooks from home or from on campus but you must create your account from a computer on campus. Create an Account

Marshall's eBooks Collection

Marshall's eBook collection includes roughly 2,500 titles and will grow to around 4,000 by the end of the year. Marshall was part of a group purchase of a pre-selected collection that is concentrated in computer science and business but includes many titles in other subjects. We may purchase additional titles in the future.

In addition, we have access to the netLibrary Public Collection, which consists of 4,000 copyright-free titles available to the public. This collection contains many classic works.

Searching for an eBook

You can search for an eBook several ways:

Search for eBooks in MILES, the online catalog
To see all e-Books in MILES, search by author for "NetLibrary"
To search for e-Books about a subject in MILES, search by keyword for "electronic books and your subject"
Search Marshall's netLibary Collection by Author, Title, Keyword or Full Text

Previewing an eBook

Just like in the library, you may take a look at a book before you decide to check it out. An eBook is previewed in 15-minute increments; after 15 minutes of inactivity the eBook is released and may be checked out by another patron.

Checking Out an eBook

You may check out eBooks for 24 hours. After 24 hours the book will be automatically checked in.

Reading an eBook

Features of Reading eBooks

eBooks are displayed one page at a time
The "TOC" tab will display the eBook's Table of Contents
The "Search" tab allows you to search for a word or phrase within the eBook you are viewing.

Printing and Copying from an eBook

When reading an eBook online you may print or copy one page at a time by using your browser's Print or Copy functions.

Although you can print parts of an eBook, printing an entire eBook violates copyright laws. netLibrary takes precautions to protect copyright laws; if a suspicious usage pattern indicative of excessive printing or copying is detected, netLibrary logs the activity and sends the user a copyright warning.

Checking In an eBook

You can return a eBook to the library before your access time expires by accessing the eBookshelf page and selecting "Return eBook to Library" from the pull-down menu.
