Communication Disorders Research Guide
This online guide is developed specifically for those doing research in Communication Disorders. It provides a recommended list of resources, which encompasses print materials, electronic databases, and selected Internet resources.
It lists only resources that deal primarily with communication disorders and related material.
Because this subject can involve other disciplines such as education, psychology, biology and neurology, you may need to consult resources in those fields also.

Books
Books in this subject area can be located at Drinko Library, Morrow Stacks or Marshall University's Health Science Library or Graduate College Library which are located off-campus at Cabell Huntington Hospital or South Charleston campus respectively. Full-Text Databases
- Academic Search Premier
This comprehensive database is a good first step to begin your research for articles. ASP database features full text for nearly 4,650 publications, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed journals. Indexing and abstracts are provided for all journals in the collection. ASP database offers information in nearly every area of academic study including: social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies and more. ASP database coverage is from 1975 to present and it is updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost.
ERIC EBSCOhost | CSA | U.S. Dept. of Education
ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center database, contains indexing and abstracts from hundreds of education and education-related journals and from thousands of educational research and technical reports. Selected full text articles are available for thousands of ERIC digest records. Coverage is 1966-present.-
ProQuest Dissertations & Theses and ProQuest Nursing Journals
Dissertations & Theses database provides indexing and summaries of over 2.3 million doctoral dissertations and masters theses from over 1,000 graduate schools. Selected dissertations added after 1996 are available as free full-text downloads in PDF format. Coverage is 1861-present.
Nursing Journals is a full-text subset of CINAHL (nursing and allied health). Coverage varies. Sociological Abstracts
Provides abstracts of journal articles, books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers, and citations to international literature in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Coverage is 1963-present.-
Wiley InterScience
Provides full text articles from scientific, medical, and professional journals from Wiley. Wiley InterScience now includes Blackwell Synergy journal content providing access to more than 3 million articles across 1400 journals. Coverage varies.
Indexes & Bibliographic Databases
These databases and print indices primarily provide citation information, (i.e. author, article title, periodical name, volume & issue, date), for articles, essays, book chapters, dissertations, and other materials. Abstracts are usually included. While these particular databases are not full-text, you may find many of the sources are available in the MU Libraries. You can find out if Marshall owns these by searching MU Journals for journal titles or MILES, the libraries online catalog, for book titles. If an item is not owned by MU Libraries, you can request it from another library by using our Information Delivery Services (IDS).

CINAHL Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health
The authoritative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers. This database provides indexing for 2,857 journals and entries for healthcare books, nursing dissertations, conference proceedings, professional standards, software and audiovisual materials. The database contains more than 1,000,000 records dating back to 1982. -
CSA Linguistics & Language Behavior Abstracts
Covers all aspects of the study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. Complete coverage is also given to various fields of linguistics including descriptive, historical, comparative, theoretical and geographical linguistics. Coverage is 1973-current. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE includes citations and abstracts from medical journals and provides authoritative information on all aspects of biomedicine and allied health fields plus biological and physical sciences and humanities and information science as they relate to medicine and health care. Although each provider above updates their site at different times, the content is the same. EBSCO offers some linked full-text.-
PsychARTICLES
Covers general psychology and specialized, basic, applied, clinical and theoretical research in psychology. Coverage is 1985-present. -
PsychINFO
Contains over two million citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books and dissertations, all in the field of psychology. Some linked full-text articles are available.
