Library Basics


Articles generally treat more narrowly focused topics than books and provide more current information. Because they are published daily, newspaper articles will be more current than magazine articles, which may be published weekly or monthly.

Articles may appear in a variety of formats:

Print article

[photo of TIME magazine] (Example: TIME magazine)

Microform article

[photo of Microfilm reader with The New York Times displayed]

(Example: The New York Times on microfilm)

Article in a database

[photo of an online article in a database]

(Example: The New York Times on Lexis-Nexis)

Use Journals Search to find out if the libraries have a particular journal (also called a periodical). Journals Search will also identify what formats are available.
