The MUGC Library's primary mission is to serve Marshall University's South Charleston based graduate students. We are committed to providing services and resources to assist both our local and distance students with their research needs.
The Collection
The circulating collection contains approximately 6,000 volumes, with a primary focus on those programs offered through the South Charleston campus. Students and faculty also have access to books in Marshall's Huntington-campus libraries via a daily courier service. The print periodicals holdings consist of about 400 titles, with several hundred additional titles available electronically. The library also has an extensive collection of Caldecott and Newbury award winning books for children and young adults.
Circulation
Currently enrolled students and faculty, along with those who purchase a Special Borrowers card are eligible to check out books. The Special Borrowers card costs $35. The library is open to the public, who can browse the collection or access the online databases.
Information Delivery
Students and faculty may request books and articles through Marshall's Information Delivery Service. Items from both the Marshall libraries and those obtained through interlibrary loan may be requested. Many articles can be sent electronically but for those available only in print format, a small fee is assessed. If you have questions about signing up for IDS, please call the library at 746-8910 for assistance.
Library Instruction
We encourage faculty to bring their classes to the library for instruction sessions. Many new students are not familiar with the library's resources and services or how to do research. Even students who are comfortable with using the library will benefit by learning about changes and updates. For more information, contact Dr. Celene Seymour at 746-8901 or Lynne Edington at 746-8902.
Photo IDs
Students can have their photo taken for a Marshall University ID card anytime the library is open. The photo image is sent to the ID office in Huntington and then the ID is mailed to a student's home address within a few weeks.
