Mr. Cecil C. Houchin was born 4/26,1882 and died 11/18/1977 at the age of 95. Mr. Houchin’s wife Otie V., 5/30/1892 preceded him in death 2/5/1962. He worked in the lumber camps on Back Mountain as a filer of saws. For a while he operated an eating establishment in Cass during the boom years. He and his wife and other relatives are buried in the Bethel Church cemetery near the farm he once owned on Back mountain road. He joked during the interviews about his membership in the lodge in as much as he had free membership since age sixty-five. He said they have sure lost money on me. He was a hearty man who I perceived had toiled long and hard during his life. Members of his family had hoped I would complete this work before he died. His accounts of the town of Cass and of the woods were descriptive in words and in his actions as he told the stories. |
