The Slaven's family were among the first settlers in Pocahontas County, settling when it was still a part of Virginia.  The family owned thousands of acres the first being as a land grant given to John Slaven.  A history of the family appears in the History of Pocahontas County P. 446.  Jacob lee Slaven was the father of Jennie Bell Slaven.
