My Dear Mother
I intended to write to
you by the last trip
of the Malchter last thursday but having only
arrived here on the sunday before I had con-
siderable to attend to and in fact hardly had
time to do so, I will however commence a letter
to you to day and try and finish it by noon
tomorrow the time the Schooner Malchter de-
ports for Key West. The now makes one
trip a week if the winds are favorable.
leaving here for Key west every thursday
and the latter place for this port. Every sat-
urday. We formerly had other means of com-
munication. two steamers of the alliance
line ( New Orleans and Havanna Steamers) The
alliance and the Lavacoa touched here on there
way from New Orleans to Havanna, but it
being regarded as an unnecessary y expense by
the Government the contract was annulled
and now our only means of communica-
