instructions. the result was that
he wrote back to me immediately
informing me that the Qr. Mas
ter Generals orders could not
be modified or changed by Col.
Gibson and that I would be gov-
erned by my instructions from
the Qr. Master General and pay
no attention to Col Gibsons
instructions. As soon as I re-
ceived this letter I sent a copy
of it to Old Baldy in a letter
I wrote myself. for his infor-
mation and at the same
time told him that I could
only fix his house upon his
written order and then if the
expenditure was disallowed
he would have it to pay and
I would not be stopped against
my pay. This letter was a
