My Dear Mother
Your letter
of the 25 inst recd and was
truly glad to hear from you
I had almost dispaired of ever
hearing from you but know
there was certainly some good
reason for your delay in
answering my letters-- at the
time-- your letter was [illegilble]
you appeared in rather low
spirits I was very sorry to
learn of "Pard" affection
and know it was a source
of great anxiety to you
you also had to borrow
trouble about Charley & I
[lacunae] by this time your spirits
certainly have revived--
Richmond & Petersburg [illegible]
