If the Confederate soldier
survived until his enlistment term was up, he could look forward to a
discharge. This discharge is for Private Hugh M. Grady, Company I, 1st
South Carolina Artillery. His commanding officer, Captain John C.
Mitchel, wrote in the “Character” section that the Grady was “a
intelligent and well-behaved young man.”
