Accoville, which sits at the mouth of the Right Fork of Buffalo Creek, was established about 1916. The name consists of the suffix "ville" added to the initial letters of "Amherst Coal Company," which had one of its three mines located nearby. (Doutt, Logan County, p. 3; Kenny, WV Place Names, p. 72) In 1972 Amherst No. 4-H-G coal mine of the Amherst Coal Company (Lundale) was located at Accoville. It employed 111 persons and produced 201,000 tons of coal (WV Department of Mines, Directory of Mines, 1972, sheet 25).

There were three known fatalities in Accoville from the Buffalo Creek Flood:

       Judy Ferguson, 27 years - Mother
       Connie Sue Ferguson, 1 year - Daughter

       Etta Pearl Hatfield, 60 years - Mother of Judy Ferguson
