Baron Maximilian Von Meulnier was a officer in the Prussian Navy. While on leave, making a round the world tour, he and Julius Schroeder were shipwrecked near Cape Town, South Africa. The two men volunteered for service in the C.S. Navy. He proved a capable and efficient officer and served the Confederate cause well. After the war, he returned to his home town of Berlin.
