Painting of CSS Alabama

     Carpenter William Robinson
        C.S. Navy  C.S.S. Alabama

Robinson, although Boston born, was engaged in a private shipyard business in Louisiana when he joined the Confederacy. He worked on re-fitting the steamship Habana into the CSS Sumter. He then joined the CSS Alabama as a carpenter. In the final battle he was wounded and transferred with other wounded to the Kearsarge. He died of his wounds before the federal vessel docked at Cherbourg. He was likely buried at Cherbourg, but location of his grave is not known.
