Dugan drew many cartoons concerning education. He supported  higher salaries for teachers. He sympathized with students'  homework load and their return to school after summer vacation. He was an avid fan of high school sports  and lamented the fact when summer vacation ended the season, so he wouldn't have any sports cartoons to draw.
