Special Collections possesses a
number of cabinet cards taken by a photographer,
whose business was called simply the City
Gallery. The photographer/owner is not
identified on the cards. One of the cards
indicates that the studio was at 312 1/2 Ninth
Street in Huntington. The cards appear to date
from the 1890s. Some of the cards’ logos exhibit
similarities to ones use by Frank
O. Fowler when he managed the
Matthews’ studio, but this is not
sufficient evidence to identify
him as the owner. Unfortunately
all attempts to identify the photographer have proved
futile.
