The manuscript in this exhibit is a holographic document. It consists of 19 sheets of yellowing paper, without any foxing, 16 x 12.5 inches. The sheets are folded length-wise and the left side is sewn with cording, making a 38-page booklet, 8 x 12.5 inches in dimensions. The text is written on both sides of the pages. The small plat maps in the manuscript were originally hand-colored, which colors have largely faded over the years. The document includes descriptions of Lots 1 through 59; for some reason Lots 60 and 61were not included in the document.
The manuscript was prepared by Thomas J. Buffington. Neither the date nor the circumstances of its preparation are known. At the top of the cover page is the following inscription, “I desire this old Survey By his | Great Grandfather | preserved by my his Son |
P[eter] C[line] Buffington | L. G. Buffington | Aug 2nd 1895”.
The manuscript was received from Pryce Haynes on 3 October 2011. Haynes received it from Bob White, a close friend and  has Acc. no. 2012/04.0793.
