Upon graduating from Columbia University, Marvin L. Stone
 won a Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship. These were established in 1911
by the will of Joseph Pulitzer. They are awarded annually to
enable the recipients to spend a year abroad to study the social, political
and moral conditions of the people and the character
and principles of the foreign press.
