Album of Destiny was Jesse
Stuart’s third book
of poetry. In February 1933 Stuart
picked up an old family photograph album,
and, while turning the pages and looking
at the images of the people, he thought
of a book with “these characters going
though this album of destiny,” which was
designed “to cover he sweep of humanity
upon this earth in 444 poems” (Richardson, Jesse, 219).
Henry Lee Shattuck was a
prominent Boston attorney and onetime member of
the Massachusetts House of
Representatives. He was born in 1879 and
died in 1971. |
