Taps for Private Tussie was
issued in Great Britain under the above
title in 1946 . This edition lacks the
illustrations, drawn by Thomas Benton,
of the American edition. The book was
printed on much thinner paper than the
American edition, so the fewer pages do
not mean that it was an abridged
production. The dust jacket includes the
following observation, “This tale...can
be taken as a brimming mountain spring
from almost any page of which one can
dip up a draught of hilarious fun and
lovely sensuous folk-poetry.”
