During his life Jesse Stuart gave
countless lectures, speeches, and talks, but
apparently the one only issued as a separate publication was Rebels with
a Cause. A few others of his
speeches were published in periodicals.
The above item is the cover of a copy of
his commencement address delivered at
Murray State University on May 29, 1967.
Jesse Stuart had a special relationship
with the university. Beginning in 1960 he donated
his papers,
including books, manuscripts and other publications, to
Murray State University Library. There is a Jesse Stuart Room
in the Pogue Special Collections Library,
housing the collection. The University
also established an annual fellowship for
a worthy in-coming freshman in his honor.
The university gave him an honorary
doctorate in 1968. During his lifetime, Jesse Stuart
received sixteen honorary doctorates,
including one from Marshall University
in 1962.
