Seven By Jesse is a special
issue of the Indiana English Journal,
published by Indiana State University,
which was devoted to the writing of
Jesse Stuart. As the title indicates it
includes seven short stories by Stuart.
The issue does not include an
introduction, so there is no indication
where these particular stories were
selected. They have in common the
typical themes found in Stuart's
fictions—the reverence for the old ways of
Appalachia, depicting a people and culture in
transition from the past to the present.
