Jesse Stuart’s Tim was
written as an assignment in a creative
writing class at Lincoln Memorial
University in 1927. It was published as
a special supplement to an issue of the small magazine, The
Little Man, in 1939.
Because of the journal’s brief existence
and its limited circulation, this item
is one of Jesse Stuart’s rarest
publications for collectors to locate.
The supplement was also
printed on very poor paper,
making copies extremely fragile.
Robert Hayes was the president of
Marshall University, and was the
individual who approved the Jesse Stuart
Day celebration for the author in
1975. Kenneth
Slack was the Director of Libraries at
the time, and was the person who
facilitate the purchase of the Jesse
Stuart collection of first editions from International Bookfinders in 1975.
