School of Journalism Fact SheetMarshall University’s journalism program dates back to the mid-1920s, was designated as the School of Journalism within the College of Liberal Arts in 1978 and became a separate academic unit when the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications(SOJMC) was formed in 1998.The SOJMC is one of only 113 journalism programs in the United States accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC).

Journalism is Evolving
It is obvious that the field of journalism is evolving but Corley Dennison,dean of the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SOJMC) at Marshall University, said the core skills of journalism are staying the same.
Updated Website
It’s not hard to see that websites are more interactive now-a-days. From the ability to “share” a webpage to the ability to “post” a comment, websites are no longer one-sided.
New Sports Journalism Major
For every sports fanatic, often the most treasured details to their favorite games and players are relayed through journalists — on television, on the radio or on paper. It is not physically possible to be present for every game of every sport they like (or love).
PR Campaign
Most students are only asked to give back to their alma mater through donations, but members of one student-run public relations campaign are planning to do the fundraising themselves.
Trivia4Tots Campaign
The economy hasn’t spelled good weather for anyone lately. But because parents have to work, it’s especially important that their children receive affordable childcare. One student-run public relations campaign at Marshall University is intent on helping an organization that does just.
