The Marshall University Mathematics Competition is a three-hour, written examination of seven to ten questions. Rather than a test of students' ability to recall facts, the Competition is designed to test students' mathematical creativity and their ability to formulate and defend their conclusions. I would like to invite you or other interested mathematics instructors at your school to nominate students to participate in this competition. Each school may send a team of three students. Students may use graphing calculators during the examination. Successful participants generally have completed mathematics courses through at least trigonometry.
This year the Competition is being held on Tuesday morning, May 8, 2007 from 9:30 - 12:30 PM on the Marshall University campus. If a team of three students from your school will be participating in the Competition, please begin the registration process by completing the participation form and one of the student registration forms must be completed and signed for each individual on the team. Students will not be permitted to compete unless we receive the signed forms by April 27, 2007. Please send the competition form and the signed student registration forms to:
Mathematics Competition Coordinator

Once we receive the registration materials we will send the Competition agenda directly to the students. If you have any questions about the Competition or difficulty with the registration process, please email me at mitchelk@marshall.edu or call (304) 696-6482.
