The Commission on Multiculturalism

Established in 1990 the Commission on Multiculturalism (COM) is an advisory body to the President which explores ideas, issues and develops goals and strategies related to a multicultural, multiethnic, multiracial university community. Chaired by the Vice President for Marshall University Multicultural Affairs the Commissioners represent various constituencies of the university, such as the faculty senate, classified staff, the student government association, Black United Students, alumni, academic deans and the Lambda Society. Several community representatives also serve on the COM. The COM is structured into subcommittees which pursue individual goals and objectives related to women, the disabled, ethnic and racial groups, and Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders.
