Our Goals

1. To increase knowledge and awareness of issues facing underrepresented students on the Marshall University campus.
2. To develop a diverse group of Marshall student leaders who together form the Multicultural Leadership Ambassadors.
3. To enable the selected Multicultural Leadership Ambassadors to acquire experience in leadership planning & community involvement.
4. Multicultural Leadership Ambassadors will serve as role models in select Cabell County Schools as outreach service to encourage and motivate youth on academic success, overcoming obstacles & diversity awareness.

Multicultural Leadership Ambassador Program

The Multicultural Leadership Ambassador Program (MLAP) represents an embodiment of the vision and desire to explore and to find the common bonds among different cultures. The imagination, intellect, and commitment of these student leaders from diverse perspectives will enhance reflection and critical thinking on society’s multi-cultures.

Research indicates that involvement in day to day college life increases student retention and overall success. Coursework, programs, and activities should be infused with opportunities for students to be active and engaged participants in the learning process.

This Multicultural Leadership Ambassador Program will directly affect student retention in that the Multicultural Ambassadors will act as liaisons between faculty, staff, administrators, and students. Their active participation within the college community and University 101 classroom presentations will positively affect their feeling of connectedness to the college and therefore increase their opportunities for success and retention.
