Coordinator’s Welcome

Robbie Ashworth, Coordinator Medical H.E.L.P.
Robbie Ashworth, M.A.

Hello and welcome to the Marshall University Medical H.E.L.P. Program located on the beautiful campus of Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Med H.E.L.P. was founded in 1986 by Dr. Barbara Guyer, a leading authority in the fields of education, learning disabilities, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). At first, we only accepted students with a diagnosis of ADHD and/or Specific Learning Disability (SLD). It was soon suggested that our unique curriculum could benefit most struggling medical students regardless of a diagnosed SLD and/or ADHD.

Struggling medical students share common characteristics, which can include long, unfocused study sessions, difficulty with time management and organization, as well as poor recall and pacing during exams. Our goal is to teach students the essential skills to be more successful in meeting these as well as other challenges of medical school. Our curriculum includes active, engaged study strategies, memory techniques, time management skills and utilities, and improved test taking methodologies. We also incorporate components of mindfulness to help cope with stress and anxiety as well as to increase focus and concentration.

We often receive feedback from our students that they completed the Medical H.E.L.P. Program with much more than they had ever expected. If you would like the opportunity to attend one of our programs, please explore our website to learn more about our students, our programs, and how we might be able to help you toward your goal of becoming a medical doctor.

Best,

Robbie Ashworth, M.A.
