MESA Meeting for 1-23-2002

Mycrofts 700

Attendance: Courtney, Sarah, Pete, Noah, Tim, Tiff, Jim, Justin, Adam

Adopt A Highway

MESA is going to volunteer for the Adopt A Highway program. We will be cleaning up a section of Madison Avenue near the Wayne County line. We are required to do three cleanups a year for a two year period, with at least 30 days between each cleanup. Gloves, bags, vests, and disposal of the trash will all be provided by the DOT. The DOT needs to be notified 24 hours in advance in order to arrange for trash pickup. After our first cleanup, they will put up an Adopt A Highway sign along the road for MESA.

Our first cleanup is scheduled for FEB 9th at 2. Meet at the receiving doors outside Morrow. (If there is bad weather, the alternate date is Feb 23rd at 2.)

SOS

A Save Our Streams monitoring of Four Pole is tentatively scheduled for March.

Thank You Letters

Sarah and Jim will write thank you letters to our sponsors for providing scholarships to attend the Solid Waste Authorities Conference at Snowshoe.

Four Pole Watershed Association

Justin has been contacted by a member from Project Impact with a proposal for MESA to form a Four Pole Watershed Association with the South Side and Enslow Park Neighborhood Associations. Courtney and Sarah will look for possible stream cleanup areas as well as document stream conditions and possible problems. Four Pole obviously has fecal contamination, which could prevent a stream cleanup in the near future, but this is one issue that could be addressed by a Watershed Association, so Justin will set up a meeting to discuss the possibilities.

Tshirts

We will check into ordering MESA tshirts. If we can get a discount on shipping, we’ll arrange to make a large order at the same time.

Waste Reduction Project

Justin and some other MESA members will meet by next week with Sam Colvin to discuss how MESA can assist in the Waste Reduction efforts on campus

CEN

There is a CEN meeting Sat Jan 26 from 1-3 at the Morgantown Ramada Inn. Justin Saran and Courtney will be going.
