March 1-3, 2001
On a recent trip to Shepherdstown, members of MESA met with Jim
Hill from the DNR, Shepherd College Faculty including Ed Snyder, and the
members of the Shepherd Environmental Organization (SEO). We coordinated
efforts with students at Shepherd College to create the foundation for
the West Virginia Collegiate Environmental Network (WV CEN). We also
toured the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Conservation Training
Center.
March 18-20, 2001
Members of MESA attended the WV DNR’s Annual Governor’s
Conference on Environmental Education. Students attend workshops on
composting, recycling, the Save Our Streams monitoring program, and
applying for grants. We also worked with students from Shepherd College,
WVU and Glennville to draft a CEN constitution and begin planning for the
next year.
April 12, 2001
MESA held a graduation banquet for seniors leaving the program. The first
graduate of the Environmental Science program was the guest speaker, and
Jim Hill from the DNR also attended. We hope to make the banquet an
annual tradition for the program.
