Summer Conference Assistant

Description of Duties

Conference Assistants support the Conference Manager in meeting the needs of summer conference guests in residence halls. Assistants work approximately 30-40 hours per week performing such tasks as guest registrations and check-ins, desk coverage, answering telephones, inventorying residence hall rooms, preparing guests rooms and common areas for guest arrival.

Conference Assitants report to the Conference Manager and the Manager of Facilities Scheduling.

Work schedule is determined by schedule of conferences and will include evening and weekend hours, as well as a rotating “on call” schedule during conferences. Vacations are negotiated with the Conference Manager. Class enrollment is limited to one course per term. Second jobs/internships must be approved during the interview process by the Manager of Facilities Scheduling.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work quickly in a fast-paced environment
Ability to quickly adapt to changing situations
Experience working with the public
Familiarity with campus and community resources
Knowledge of fire and other residence hall emergency procedures
Minimum one year attendance at Marshall University
Minimum 2.5 G.P.A.
Residence hall experience is helpful but not essential

Dates of employment:   May 16, 2013 through July 31, 2013


Work 30-40 hour average work week including day, evening and weekend hours
Live in residence hall during dates of employment
Attend all Conference Staff training sessions and Staff meetings
Take no more than one class per session
