The New Graduate College Vision
As the new Dean, Dr. Spindel will keep some of the “old,” while introducing new ideas as well. Due to her long service to Marshall, which includes an administrative history in two departments and one college, Dr. Spindel’s transition into the role of Graduate College Dean should be nearly seamless. As graduate education continues to evolve and grow in demand, Dr. Spindel will lead the College with innovative practices while retaining successful past initiatives. In her own words, Dr. Spindel’s vision for the college is this: “I hope to continue to advance the quality and integrity of our academic programs, to encourage and support the development of fully online programs, to provide continued and increased support for research and scholarship at the graduate level, to be a strong advocate for interdisciplinary programs and for greater civic engagement in research and scholarship, to foster a community of graduate students that will lead to greater communication and collaboration, and finally, to address the fact that graduate education is among the best kept secrets at Marshall University by promoting graduate education as an integral component of the institution. As Dean of the Graduate College I hope to build on existing strengths and successes, but also extend these achievements in ways that are innovative and forward-looking. I see my primary job as responding to the needs of our 21st century students.” MU-ADVANCE wishes Dr. Spindel a short acclimation period, followed by a long, successful journey leading students along the road of graduate education!
