Questions regarding Faculty Fellowships
Does the 5 page limit on the
project description also include references?
No, references are in addition to the 5 page limit.
Is the 1 page "Senior Partner" discussion
included in the 5 page limit?
Yes, this would be included in the 5 page limit.
However, support documents (such as a letter of
support from Senior Partner) would not be considered
a part of the 5 page limit.
There are several people who could teach my
course (for a course buy-out) do I have to specify
who that will be or can I use some form of TBA?
I would think a letter of intent as a signal of
commitment from a person to teach the course would
be seen as beneficial (again not a part of the 5
page limit). This is not required however so a TBA
would be another alternative.
One of the conferences I am proposing to go to
has not yet announced it's location. I plan to
present at this conference, but how do I calculate
travel money for a conference that has not announced
the city (so I don't know how much airfare will be,
hotel, or even registration, etc)?
Estimates would be acceptable. If they tend to
choose east coast/west coast, then that could
provide additional guidance.
I currently do not have any current or pending
support. Do I just attach this form, but write in
"No current or pending funding"?
Yes, that will be fine.
I'm really not clear what you are looking for in
the "Synergistic activities" in the NSF Bio Sketch.
Can you clarify even more? I have several projects
that have bridged the academic/community divide-is
that the type of thing you are looking for?
Yes. Activities that have some degree of relevancy
for your proposed project, but could extend quite
broad to include a range of
activities/programs/committees etc with which you
have been involved.
In the "Collaborations and other affiliations"
section of the NSF Bio Sketch, I assume that the
"graduate and postdoc advisors" refer to the people
who have mentored me, but the "thesis advisor"
section is for the student that I have mentored. Is
this correct?
In your 2 page NSF CV/bio, they want a list of
people with whom you have collaborated -- all
advisors (graduate, postdoc, and thesis). This would
help them to select proper reviewers who have not
significantly collaborated with you. They typically
define collaboration as major advisors and others
with whom you have significantly worked (ike
published papers, presentations, etc).
